Day 2 - NYC 2020

9.3.20

The final days of our trip we took a tour around the Metaprop offices. MetaProp is a New York-based venture capital firm focused on the real estate technology (“PropTech”) industry. Since its founding in 2015, MetaProp has invested in 100+ technology companies across the real estate value chain.

Amira, who is a Senior Associate, Startup Services at Metaprop and assists on their talent side gave us a tour. At Metapop’s offices they trial their cohort products and also have a timeline of the development of proptech over the years. We then had a chat with Aaron Block, which was great to finally put a face to a name. We said our goodbyes and headed up to see GG (Head of Coyote US) and Johnnie for some lunch. We had various meets for candidates and hit the hay at 8pm. Which was a very different story to our last trip out here...next day it was up early again to meet with CEO of Upward and Elliot Management, Shana Schlossberg. Shana comes from a real estate family, but actually she is a techy at heart. Elliot is a property management platform that empowers owners and managers with the tools and analytics insights they need to operate their buildings at maximum efficiency and extract maximum value. Shana’s tech background shines through in the platform, which she walked me through. Every angle has been thought about, from both the perspective of property owners and for the tenants that are able to download the Elliot app. The depth and breadth of the platform has been achieved through close collaboration with building owners who are already using the app across millions of square feet. Shana is currently running as interim CEO, which is why she has asked LMRE to help find a permanent CEO – a task we are very much looking forward to.

This is my fifth time out in NYC and what I really respect is how American’s go about business. Their no bullsh*t approach is just so efficient and might be why more gets done out here. I'm not going to lie, it took some adjustment as at first and I was a bit taken back when they would be so direct and kick start the meeting with two questions

'so why are we having this meeting'…shortly followed up by 'how can we work together and help each other'. Combine these two questions and quickly you know each other’s objectives and see if business can be done. So apologies my fellow Brits for my new found brevity.

I caught the red eye back and straight into the office for me. Next stop, WiredScore, to look at their European expansion.
